Edited by: Darius Brinn on 18/02/2008 11:02:10 The real root of the problem is DEMAND. There's offer because there's demand. If they get rid of macro miners, mining will be done by operators in sweatshops. After all, an nber skilled miner in a Hulk can make quite a lot of millions per hour. He might make a billion ISK in a couple of days, more or less, if he takes turns.
And a billion ISK means real life dollars, and it's the buyer's fault.
Check WoW. There are people playing the same toon for 24/7, taking turns to sleep and eat. They don't all macro, but still they all make money.
Whatever you can do to ISK sellers will generate complaints, because whether they're macroing or playing, their business equals (playing-wise) what genuine miners do. I mine in a DAMN CATALYST with Expanded cargoholds and haul everything back myself every four minutes instead of jet-canning. Still, I'm making my way little by little. I can already afford, fit and insure the Retriever I'll be flying soon. But I don't want to cooperate with anybody yet. Partners have exigencies, petitions, they want to hang around at a particular hour, or they simply cannot be trusted. I'd rather do Lvl 1 missions, mine alone and stay in the NPC corp for the time being. And boy, I am having fun, getting used to EVE. Scanning, overview settings, getting used to different weapons, ranges, etc. There's so much to learn, and I want to do it at MY pace.
I have almost NO combat skills, I have little time to play except some nights, and I intend to stay in the NPC corp for a while. I contacted several noob corps (and have been contacted by them) and they ALWAYS have some kind of requirement. Yes, they'll give me a Frigate with Tech I stuff for free (despite my NOT wanting one)...IF I mine for them one hour a day, at fixed hours. wherever they choose, and selling them the ore at their prices (ultimately MUCH lower than what I usually get). No thanks.
Forcing me to join a player corp is not fair. I have chosen my path (mining) because I want to play market PvP and frankly, with the time and effort I can spare to play EVE, I'll never be a successful combat pilot. Who are you to force my path in the EVE Universe?
If there's somebody to blame is those hot-headed vets who lose 20 battleships per month in pirating sprees, and then resort to buying a billion ISK to carry on with their style.
Want to counter ISK trading for real money? Monitor suspicious transactions, limit the trading capabilities of trial accounts, or limit the amount of hours a given IP can stay logged in, adding all the accounts associated with such IP.
It's a difficult thing to eradicate, but the MOST important thing here is not to make real players pay. No mistakes when taking actions, please.
